This table lamp was made by the well-known French artist Jacques Vilain (1945-2009).
Jacques Vilain’s active years spanned from the mid-1960s through the late 1990s.
Vilain is an iconic French ceramicist of the 1970s, closely associated with the famous pottery community of La Borne (Cher department, France).
He is best known for his work with pyritized stoneware (grès pyrité), a technique where natural iron inclusions in the clay melt and bloom during firing to create distinctive dark speckles.
He frequently used raw, unglazed stoneware or vegetal ash glazes, often decorated with scarified or "combed" patterns. The color palette typically features gray-blues, deep browns, and salt-glazed finishes.
His creations are generally marked under the base with an incised signature reading "J. Vilain" or "J. Vilain à Fussy".
