Vintage African carved wooden PUNU mask.
This beautifully proportioned hand-carved African mask exemplifies the classical serene aesthetic of the Punu people of Gabon. Carved from a single piece of hardwood, it features a warm, rich honey-brown patina that showcases the natural grain of the timber.
The forehead is adorned with the prominent, relief-carved Mabinda grid pattern, the traditional nine-scale diamond scarification representing the nine founding clans of the Punu culture.
Features classical almond-shaped, semi-closed eyelids that convey an aura of ancestral wisdom, peace, and spiritual presence.
The crest-like hair is meticulously carved with fine linear details, creating a striking contrast with the smooth contours of the face.
