Vintage small african carved wooden mask by Punu people Gabon.
This hand-carved wooden mask showcases the distinctive artistic traditions of the Punu people of Gabon. Featuring a deep, rich dark patina, it presents a compelling variation of the classic Okuyi or Mukuyi ancestral masks.
The mask features characteristic almond-shaped slit eyes, finely arched brows, and traditional scarification markings on the forehead.
The top is crowned with a beautifully detailed, multi-lobed traditional hairstyle.
Unlike the more common white kaolin-painted Punu masks, this dark-patinated piece carries a strong, dignified, and solemn presence, often associated with judicial or protective functions within the community.
