Exceptional, vintage hand-carved wooden ritual mask originating from the Bété people of the Ivory Coast, West Africa. This powerful tribal artifact features the classic, aggressive expression characteristic of traditional war masks (Glé), designed to intimidate and ward off malevolent spirits.
The mask showcases a prominent bulging forehead, deep-set slit eyes, and a highly stylized, protruding nose integrated with distinctive upturned cheek guards. The entire surface is meticulously embellished with vintage upholstery tacks (metal rivets), adding texture and a striking visual rhythm. The lower jaw/chin area retains remnants of its original organic fibers.
